John Dorrington-professional writing, research, editing, and proofreading
Since selling his printing business over twelve years ago John Dorrington has been working as a freelance copy-writer, editor and proof-reader, yet also finds the time to be a serving army officer in the South African Defence Reserves where his connection with the military has been beneficial to his private involvement in conducting military historical research.
John’s involvement with the military has led indirectly to his editing several books on the subject of military history. It has also led to his being commissioned to research and write two full-length biographies as well as a history of the unit in which he currently serves. His fourth book Semper Eadem: The Cape Town Rifles (Dukes) 1855-2010 was published in December 2010. One of his books had nothing to do with the military, however, and came about when he was asked by the South African Parliament to write a celebratory tenth-anniversary account of its public accounts committees.
As an experienced editor John has been involved in subjects as widely diverse as the tourism industry and academia. His work in academia involves assisting mainly second-language or third-language English-speakers by editing their academic papers and dissertations. This has included editing several Master’s and Doctoral theses. The books he has edited range from golf and wreck diving to the battle of Blouberg. He has also edited several novels and is currently working as a consultant on an American film script.
John is a graduate of the University of Cape Town where he studied English and History.
A good portion of our writing, research, proofreading, and editing work is done by John, and all content writing is done by Trish Dorrington who also looks after our websites.
